fisherwoman: (never have prepared myself for)

w2, tuesday.

[After noticing what's been going on since Monday morning, Endorsi has been trying to stay more scarce than normal until it ends. That being said... She's the type to get restless easily enough, and by Tuesday morning, she isn't inclined to stay in her room any longer. She heads up to the uppermost floor available, walking into the biome.

She tells herself she'll be careful not to get close to anybody else, but - she doesn't notice Yuel out of the corner of her eye. She strays close enough to the other girl that they'll experience a memory.]

[It is, in fact, pretty impressive! And she hasn't seen a creature like that before, so the novelty is there as well. Of course, being the person she is, she's never going to admit that. In fact, she's rudely faking a yawn.]'

Well, it was alright...

Huh? Give me some credit! I've fought things that are much scarier, you know!

There was a—

[...She starts, but as she glances Yuel's way, the eye contact is long enough that they'll be thrown into another memory.

The room that you're standing in with three boys is dark. The memory cuts in mid conversation, and all three of them are standing around you, staring at you in horror. You know why - before this test began, they appointed you as a leader and listened to your instructions... Only for you to immediately kick the black haired boy to the ground. They're all looking at you with suspicion, and they're right to. You decide to explain - it's not like telling them what's going on will give them the ability to stop you.

"Gather all the Fishermen in one area and wait to see how the Ranker acts? Did you really fall for that?" They're idiots, but it's been useful for you, though you're still surprised they all followed you so easily.

"Endorsi..." The boy with the headband (Bam, you think of him as) says, disbelief in his voice. He looks distraught.

"Don't look so sad." You tell him. "You're spoiling that adorable face."

From beside him, the armored man speaks up. Rather than looking distraught, he looks furious, already pointing his sword at you. "Was this your goal all along? To take out all of team B's Fishermen? Only four out of six Fisherman candidates can pass the position test." From behind him, the black haired boy you kicked to the floor just moments before speaks up, realization in his voice. "So if we drop out..."

You sigh. "Remember that mistake I made during the last test?" But then your expression shifts to a grin. "I want to guarantee that I'll pass."

The black haired boy stares at you, realization turning to fear, before he turns around and tries to run - only for you to lunge his way and kick him again, this time in the back of the head, sending him down to the ground again. Casually, as you look down at him:

"If you don't want to die, you shouldn't turn your back on me."

"How awful..." The boy with the headband says, but he doesn't move. He doesn't need to worry about this particular test - he isn't one of the candidates you need to rise past because he fills a different position on the team. He's safe. The man with the sword, though, rushes towards you and swings. It's an easy move to predict, and it's just as easy to dodge out of the way, slamming your fist into his face as he tries to attack. He hits the ground from the force of your punch, too. You think about how easy this will be as you look back to the boy with the headband.

"This is what it means to climb the tower. This is what you'll have to do to climb the tower with her. If you're prepared to do that, Bam, then go to Rachel. Go on."

After you've given him that instruction, you turn back to the others. There are two of them, but even combined, they aren't any match for you. You're able to fight them both until they're on the ground, but before you go any further, you hear that voice from behind you again.

"Please don't do this!" He begs, and you blink as you look his way.

"Oh, you're still here?" You ask, mild surprise all that comes into your tone despite the violence.

"Why would you do this? We're on the same team!" Upon hearing him say that, though, you sigh.

"We were just assigned to the same team. We're competing against each other in the position test." It's so simple to you. So easy. You wonder why he doesn't see that this is the only way to get ahead in this world.

"Yeah, but..." It doesn't stop him from looking horrified as he says that, but in turn, his words don't touch anything in you. If anything, you're just getting more annoyed, but your voice is casual as you look back to the two boys laying on the ground, incapacitated.

"Besides, they should have given up sooner. They're clearly weaker than me."

"But don't you know? When you were little, when you didn't get to eat nice dinners, didn't you want to become strong, even though you were weak?"

...He really is too soft, you think. One of the boys on the ground starts to crawl towards the exit and you walk towards him, quickly, prompting him to hold his arms out in front of him and beg. "S-Spare me!"

You feel nothing as you strike out, slamming your shoe into his face and sending him down again.

"I've forgotten the taste of that stale bread." You tell the boy with the headband behind you, no emotion in your voice as you speak. "You can't be afraid to hurt others."

"This is wrong!" For some reason, that frustrates you more than anything. Obviously it is. You know that. The problem is that it doesn't matter. When you speak again, you're yelling, suddenly furious.

"Even if it's wrong, you have to do it in order to get what you want!"

The boy calls your name with more urgency, as though he's warning you about something this time - but before you can see what's happening, the memory fades.

...She doesn't say anything.]

[After a moment:]

If you're asking whether I killed them, I didn't.

...We were all taking a test to determine which of us would be able to fill positions on a team. The best way to explain it is that I didn't do very well on an earlier part on another test, so to pass the entire class, I had to make sure they did worse than me. The easiest way to do that was to make sure they were so injured they wouldn't be able to continue.

[She shrugs.]

That's just the kind of place I come from! Most tests are that way.

[She taps her chin.]

I haven't told you about the tower yet, have I?

[gmail give me my notifs challenge]

Well, if you get invited to the inner tower, you'll be allowed the chance to climb up the floors! And if you pass the test on each floor and reach the top of the tower... They say that it's a place where you'll find anything you could ever wish for. The tests are dangerous, though.

Well, the big difference is that when you go into the tower, you know exactly what you're signing up for... Not like here.

Which one, coming to the inner tower or coming here?
